The Zapp Experience II

Organizing Chairperson: Leo Tee Ke Hui

In the month of December, the Leo Club of SMKDJ mentored 13 students from Taman Megah Children's Home in academics through our educational program entitled the Zapp Experience II as a continuous effort to expose the students to further syllabus and prepare them in advance for their subsequent academic school year through a systematic mentor system in academics.

In context, each mentor is assigned to tutor one or a group of students of the same age in their studies and drill them for the following academic year through practical and theoretical components. The sessions are facilitated by mentors who are dedicated to guide and tutor our fellow students in each subject four times per week. Details on each lesson were filled out by each mentor and each student's attitude towards learning and improvement in their studies were analysed and recorded for the reference of the Education Committee of the home. Throughout the project, the team have visited the welfare home for children to liaise with the member of the educational committee and discuss on the progress of the participating students with a view to the possibilities of future projects focusing on empowering the children at the Taman Megah Home.

The team hope that their service can effectively deliver measurable results on the fellow mentees for their subsequent academic year. In addition, the Leo Club donated academic books to the Taman Megah Children's Home courtesy of generous sponsors and bookstores.

As mentioned in the Leo Pledge, we pledge of our knowledge to bring men closer to their dreams, ergo, the team hope that their service benefits their mentees for a new schooling year. This project has surely served as a whetstone for SMKK Alpha Leos in organizing projects of this portfolio besides strengthening the bonds among Leo members and rendering out sincere and undying service to the community as far as the capability permits.

Soup Kitchen

Organizing Chairperson: Leo Ng Jia Shiuan

On the 8th of December, Leo members of SMKDJ arrived at KSK KL office at 8 in the evening.

KSK KL office is a shop lot which has two floors, the ground floor and the first floor. The ground floor of KSK KL office is where they distribute hot meals on a daily basis, provide medical treatment facilities and laundry services for the homeless. As for the second floor, it is their office where they brief us about the things that are important when volunteering. When they arrived, they waited for other volunteers to come as the traffic was congested due to the heavy rain.

They were then given a form to fill in their basic information. Later, when all of the volunteers have arrived, one of the KSK Committee members, Mr.Chua briefed them about the Dos and Don'ts while volunteering. A presentation was carried out along with Mr.Chua's explanation. There were also slides of the homeless being approached by the KECHARA volunteers. Mr.Chua explained the things that should and should not do when distributing food to the homeless so ensure that unwanted accidents can be avoided.

After the 1 hour and 10 minutes briefing, the Leos were then asked to purchase their t-shirt and wear it while volunteering so it would be easier for the group leaders to recognize them. The coordinator, Mr.Wong arranged them in groups and assigned them to different areas. When the foods were set and ready, they went to their respective groups and set off.

The Leos were assigned to Puduraya and were in a mobile van. Their leader, Mr.Khor drove them to the places where the homeless take shelter. Everyone then gave out packets of rice, oranges, bread and water to the homeless. The homeless each held a plastic bag in their hands and queued up to receive the food from them.

Approximately an hour later, they had given out all the food. They then head back to the office. The End.
