Training and Leadership Programme On Board Star Cruise Libra , Penang

On the 13th of April , Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya have organized a project called Training and Leadership Programme On Board Star Cruise Libra , Penang. At 7.00am, all the participants have arrived in the school canteen. A total of 22 members had attended this project. After a short briefing by our teacher advisor, Puan Ng Yoke Chan, our Leo advisor , Lion Clarence Koh and our organizing chairperson and assistant organizing chairperson Leo Foo Sher Ming and Leo Solomon Tneo, we departed from SMK Damansara Jaya at 9.00am.

Along the way, all the members introduced themselves one by one. At about 12.00pm, we dropped by a rest station to have our lunch. After we had our lunch, we played a game called ‘Bus Criminal’ on the bus. This game aimed to let the members to learn how to solve a problem in a short period of time with the help of their partners. All of us had fun and the members find it interesting and exciting to play the game.

We arrived at the Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Yee Ran Jing Sheh at 2.00pm. The moment we reached there, we had our group photo with the home’s president. After handling our check, all of us went inside to know more about the home. The members enjoyed interacting with the disabled people. The members shook hands and even did a “gwiyomi” dance with one of the disabled. We departed from the home after one hour to continue our journey to Penang.

We arrived at the ferry port at 3.15pm. We took the ferry across over to Pulau Pinang to board our cruise ship ‘Star Cruise Libra’ at the Star Cruise Terminal located about 1.5km away from the port. It was tiring but it will be worth it. When we arrived at the terminal, Lion Clarence took our ICs to get our boarding tickets. Some of us rested in order to regain our energy after a long day in the bus and can’t wait to relax in our cabin rooms. Around 4.30pm we showed our tickets and boarded the ship.

We have already planned the room pairs the day before, so we got into our cabin rooms and memorize each member’s room location. We rested for about an hour. Some of us took a shower to freshen up ourselves before we went to dinner. The toilet is quite cramp and tight but it was bearable. Around 7, all of us made our way to the Four Season’s restaurant, which is a luxurious western buffet restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the roast turkey. This roast turkey is unlike any other roasted turkey we have ever tasted before because this turkey is tasty and moist at the same time, while the turkey we ate before is dry as a dessert. After dinner we explored the ship by going into some retail shops that were available on the ship, but the items sold were to expensive.

Around 8.15pm, the captain made an announcement over the PA saying there will be a safety drill in 15 minutes, and we were instructed to go back to our cabins and get our lifejackets. After hearing the main fire bell, we went to our designated safety zones. The crew made an excellent briefing on what we have to do when the real emergency occurs. We went to see our respective lifeboats outside the ship. The lifeboat, nicknamed Nassau could accommodate over 100 people and we are supposed to memorize the number of our lifeboat. Our lifeboat’s number is number 12, which is a pretty huge lifeboat. The cruise ship departed Penang afterwards and we were on the front of the ship so we can see it leaving the port. However it was dark so there wasn’t much to see. We made our way to the Stardust lounge after that to watch a magic performance.

The magician, Darcy Oake, made a breathtaking and spectacular performance. One of our Leo, Leo Selina Jia, had her iPhone stomped to the ground only to be found later back in a iPhone case, perfectly sealed in its original packaging. We were astounded how funny it was. After the show, we went outside to take pictures with Darcy Oake and we gathered all the Leos to begin our game “Running Leo” which is a spin-off of the famous Korean game show “Running Man”.

Running Leo is about to train the participants interactions with strangers and also among each other. To win this game, the participants have to find the mysterious killer among them. The clues can be obtained from the staff on the cruise ship. In order to make things more challenging, one of the participant legs has to be tied to their partner, this will allow them to walk systematically and also to train their working together spirit. Leo Heng Wei Lynn won the game.

After all the games, around 11.45pm, some of us decided to enjoy the swimming pool while the rest went to the karaoke bar. All the festivities ended around 2 in the morning, because all the shops are closed then. We went to bed then. Some of the Leos decided not to sleep in the cabin but instead they slept on the Skydeck, which they enjoyed a lot because of the cooling sea breeze that was happening at the time.

The next day, we woke up around 8 am and most of us are really tired. We went to the Mariners Restaurant to have our breakfast. The breakfast consist of a wide range of food choices, all the way from Asian breakfast to the European breakfast. We enjoyed our cold cuts along with a nice cup of joe. Around 9.15am we went back to our rooms to pack our clothes and essentials because 10 o’clock in the official disembarking time. We got back our ICs and payed our expenses over at the Collection zone. We disembarked the ship around 10.15am and went on board our bus. We headed over to the famous Penang icon, the Kek Lok Si temple. The temple was huge. Some of us decided not to climb but some of us had the curiosity to find out how the view at the top looks like. So we went climbed to the top of the temple. It was a lot of steps to climb, something like Batu Caves, but not as many steps.

When we arrived at the top, we had to take a new thing they had at Kek Lok Si, which is a inclined lift, which basically is a life that goes at a inclined angle. The top of the temple had a huge statue and we took pictures of it. We also prayed to the gods for good fortune in our studies and life. When we went back down, we stopped by a Chinese restaurant to have our lunch, which is a vegetarian meal. They did a good job making the curry taste like meat, but it is not. After lunch we gathered around 2pm at the bus stop to head back to Petaling Jaya.  The bus journey was a long and tiring one, with most of us sound asleep throughout the journey. We stopped by at Tanjung Malim around 5.45pm to have our dinner and we had a good meal. We arrived back in school at 8.15pm with most our the Leo’s parents already waiting there to pick up their children.
