The Second Children's Forum - "I Have A Voice"

If you’ve been unsettled and complaining about the injustice you see around you, in your school, your neighbourhood, your city, even your own homes and you’ve always wanted to do something about it but never knew how… this is for you.
We hope to form groups of changemaking youth all across the city to join us in our movement to establish Child&Youth Participation in the development of how our world is built at every corner of our city of Petaling Jaya.
We are not just the future generation, but in true fact, we are the generation of now and equal participants of today’s society.
Our voices are as equal as the voices and participation of anyone else.
Join us at the Petaling Jaya Child Council’s Second Children’s Forum themed “I Have A Voice”

Eco Flag

A week before 8 August, we’ve collected used plastic bottles from the school students and also from the committee members home. On 8 August after school, we piled the bottles together and counted the amount of bottles that we have collected. Then, we stacked the bottles properly before spray painting them and gluing them together in place. We painted the bottles red, white and blue and let them dry. The next day, on 9 August, we continued spray painting the leftovers while gluing the dried painted bottles together. On 10 August, we glued the leftovers of the dried painted bottles together and leave them to dry. We draw the star and the crescent moon on the Malaysian flag on a piece of card board paper and cutted them out before painting them yellow. We leave them to dry until the next day, 11 August. Lastly, we pasted the star and the crescent moon on the Eco Flag.

Venue: School's Bilik Gerakan
Organizing Chairperson: Leo Choo Vin Sze

We realized that there are quite a number of students in our school who are good in their studies but are unfortunately facing financial problems. So we have decided to share this idea with our faculty advisors, Puan Ng and Puan Wong.
After agreeing with our idea, we started to look out for poor students in our schooI. We have also asked for the list of poor students from the Persatuan Kebajikan in our school. Later on, I prepared the project’s proposal and started to get permission from our Penolong Kanan Merangkap Pemangku Pengetua, En. Azmuddin bin Mohamad and Penolong Kanan Kokurikulum, Encik Khairulnizam.

En. Azmuddin and Encik Khairul were glad that Leo Club is carrying out this project to help the poor students. Then, my committee members and I went to the Sri Tanjong Bookshop to collect all the books we have ordered. The bookshop manager, Mr.Tay was quite impressed. Knowing that we’ll be carrying out this project, he promised us earlier that he will be giving us a good discount for the books.

We had a committee meeting on the next day and we have decided on the date to distribute the books to the students. The project will be carried out on the following Thursday, during our Leo General Meeting. After that, we have informed the students about this project and they were thankful that we are willing to reach out to them. While waiting patiently for the students to arrive, my committee members and I started to arrange the books into five different sets.

After they have arrived at the Bilik Gerakan, our club advisor, Lion Christopher Yee presented all the revision books to the students. Our faculty advisor, Pn Ng Yoke Chan gave a few words of encouragement to the students before they went home.

Cleaning Before the World Ends.

Cleaning Before the World Ends. (27.7.2011)

Venue: Bilik Gerakan
Organizing chairperson: Leo Tan Pei Ming

On the 27th of July, a total number of 14 Leo members participated in an environmental project called “Cleaning Before the World Ends”. At 1.30p.m, Leos gathered at the Bilik Gerakan with their cleaning tools like cloths, pails, brooms and mops. Duties were distributed to them. We all helped out by arranging the chairs to aside so that it’ll be more convenient for us to sweep and mop the floor. After that, duties were distributed to the members as some of them were in charge of wiping the tables while the others were wiping the windows. Leos finished cleaning up the Bilik Gerakan by 2.30p.m and it was clean enough to carry out the Gadis Remaja Terkini project on the following day.

Leo Orientation Camp

I just wanna say, YOU PEOPLE WHO MISSED THE CAMP JUST MISSED THE AWESOME-EST CAMP EVAH! Yep. In yo face. We cool liddat yo. Yo. Yo. Yo.

Real stuff here.

LOC was on at the 26th til the 28th of August in Taman Wetlands, Putrajaya. It all started (from my point of view) waking up early in the morning to bath and pack. Yes, I am very last minute. And also waiting for Sean. After we went through the LRT and while waiting at A&W with the other DJ-ian Leos, I found out that I had the heaviest bag. Yep. Struggles. We had the most fun ride from A&W to Taman Wetlands. 'cause we Leos, yo. We awesome, yo. Also with Sher Wu stealing my lens and playing with Christy's guitar in the bus.

We were separated into groups and did awesome stuffs to introduce ourselves. The game where we had to get people's signatures and the part when Edward was being all weirdo and a stand-up comedian. And then me and Haris sang Baby while doing the star jump. Man, we're so famous.

And had station games after dinner. This station games are one of the craziest games ever. Like really. It'll drive you nuts! We competed between teams and it was one crazy epic night! There was the:
1) Pick up stuffs from the group to the other end of the road with a sate stick station
2) Use numbers from 1-9, plus, minus, times and divide to make an equation to an answer station
3) General knowledge tic tac toe station
4) Get the whole team to be blindfolded and form a shape with a long string station
5) Carry a person who is carrying a frisbee filled with water to the other side without the person being carried touching the frisbee and without the water spilling station
6) And lastly the splashing water to people of the other team who is trying to steal your plastic bag away station (which I fell)

And then everyone took a shower and had crazy bonding session time until about 2.30am. Woah. Well, I was at the kitchen with my leg. The last one to shower. And Nicholas gave me a noodle cup. Almost everyone sat in a circle and sang The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Turns out, sleeping in a tent isn't that bad. It was a good experience. It looks really small from outside, but just enough space on the inside. Illusions.

The next morning started off with a frisbee game against each team and the winning team against the PJI and had breakfast and the opening ceremony. Leo uniforms rule! Everything was normal after lunch until, we had the HIV/AIDS talk. It was informatively awkward, so I'll just picture it out.

After going through an epic experience, most of us took a power nap while Haris slept. Yes, he slept for nearly 2 hours. We we're waiting for the committee to prepare our food for us to cook at the campfire! It was a good bonding nap and an epic cooking session. We even sang Spongebob's the Campfire Song Song at the campfire! After dinner we had one of the most epic nights ever, again.

The Fellowship night! jeng jeng jeeeeng. We started off with the Leos from each school to perform and then some epic coordination games and epic dancing that requires us to change partners and meet new people. So there was singing, laughing, screaming and dancing. We were enjoying ourselves so much that I didn't take any photos and we were so bummed when it ended! We gave ourselves a round of applause, took a shower and spent the last night together playing Killer. Which Sean and I didn't join cause I was too tired and Sean was hooked on his iPhone. I went to bed earlier than the others but we all still over slept for about 2 hours late the next morning.

It was a chill last day morning with everyone. Had breakfast, attended the closing ceremony and jammed with everyone. We were divided in 2 groups, the jamming group and the group that plays weird games. We sang together with the guitar and actually bonded! Until the bus came. We took our group shots, cried and got on the bus. No. Just kidding, we didn't cry. But it was really sad that it had to end so early. Some continued their game of Killer in the bus while some of us took a nap. I took a nap. We arrived back at A&W and said our goodbyes. And then that night, Facebook was filled with LOC photos and us saying how much we loved LOC and miss it.

Over all, it was a wonderful experience for me. Spending 3 days with Leos, awesome-ness. Next up is LLC. This will be even better. >) Thank you, PJI Leos for having us and all. Yeah. It was awesome. Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
