Project on the 29th Dec!

The new year is just around the corner! That means that school starts again really soon! So the Leo Club has decided to put up a very last project of the year -- Cleaning the school! Just so we can start school in a clean environment as how we remembered it.

So it's really helpful if you come give us a hand to better the school environment! If interested, details are as follow:

After 10 years of being in school, or around there. SPM is finally here. Well, only for the '94 batch.
All the best to all SPM candidates all around Malaysia, not only Leos! Make all the homeworks, naggings, waking up early and stuffs like worth it. :D

Finally out of school. Freedom. Run freedom, run. Driving all day and night. No homeworks.

      The meeting was called to order by Organizing Chairperson and also Assistant Treasurer of Leo SMK Damansara Jaya, Leo Lim Liuh Enn by 1.30 p.m. Leo Pledge and roll call were then carried on. Leo Lim Liuh Enn as the organizing chairperson then gave a welcome speech. Then, Lion Ivan recognized the presence of Mr. Muthusamy, the representative from The United Nation. Lion Clayton also discussed with all the Leo members from all clubs about the upcoming projects that has to do with nature. Mr. Muthusamy, gave a speech about the projects United Nation were up to. At last, meeting adjourned.

2nd Children’s Forum – I Have a Voice

2nd Children’s Forum – I Have a Voice (14.9.11)

Venue: Petaling Jaya Library Hall
 
At around 9.00am, the registration was open and the crowd started coming in. The event started of with an Ice Breaking session by Zoe & Elsya. Then was an Introduction to the PJ Child Council. So there was the first session, "YOUR Voice" ( School Level). Carried on with a youth participation, "What It Really Means" (Where we are now and where we want to be). Around the noon there was a refreshing lunch prepared for all the attenders. Then it was a keynote speech by Sha’in Sreeni about Social Action and Youth Participation. Next was the second session, "Walk Your Talk" (School Level). A short break was held after that. So then it was the third session, "YOU are the champion!" (Community Level). Last but not least, the sharing of learning gained and action plans from individuals and groups. The closing ceremony was the carried next.

Venue: Lecture Theatre 1, Taylor’s College Subang Jaya
 
      The meeting was called to order by President from Leo Club of Sunway Metro, Leo Emily Choong. Leo Pledge and roll call were then carried on. Leo Emily Choong as the organizing chairperson of this meeting gave a warm welcome speech. Apart from that, every Leo President from each club gave a speech on the club’s pass, upcoming projects and the experience of being a president. Then, the Regional Committee Chairperson for Leo Clubs Region 7 & 8, Lion Nelson Wong gave a speech. Immediate Past President from different Leo Clubs previously also gave a motivational speech. The even was then carried on by having open discussion with matters arising between all the leo clubs present. Then  DC Environmental, DC Membership, YE Program gave a talk. Last but not least, slides from Power Point were showed for Leo presidents, secretaries, and treasurers. And so, meeting adjourned.

Our teacher advisors informed us about the upcoming Malaysia Day Celebration and the Guru Kanan Mata Pelajaran Kemanusiaan, Pn Shahlawati has requested us to perform a song on the day. We practiced twice a week before the performances. We used the song Here in My Home and Satu Malaysia and arranged them into a medley. We coordinated the singing and the guitar strumming. After the song was well learned, everyone was placed into positions according to the parts that they sang and also voices. We coordinated some moves and fun boards to make the performance livelier. We wore traditional clothes from all races on that day as a sign of unity.

The iSight project was held on the 12th and the 13th of September. The project was made successful with the help of the opticians from Mega Optical which is located in Kelana Jaya. On the 12th of September, Leo Arlena Nadeeya, Leo Christy Yong, Leo Tan Pei Ming and Leo Ahmad Haris were given the permission to let out of the class a period earlier to prepare the class, 5 Balau for the eye check. At 1.30pm, the opticians arrived and they set up their booths. Leo Christy Yong and Leo Tan Pei Ming were the representatives to do the reading check up for the students on the 12th September. Leo Lim Andrea took the duty as the runner and started calling the classes at 2.00pm. We started the form 2 on the 12th September and form 1 on the 13th September. Leo Christy Yong and Leo Syafinas Ibrahim volunteered the reading check up on the 13th September. After the project has ended on the 12th and the 13th of September, we cleaned up the class and put the chairs back into place. We swept the floor and emptied the dustbin.

Launching of UNICEF's State of the World's Children Report 2011 ( 8.9.11)

Guests of honor: Mr Hans Olsen, UNICEF Representative to Malaysia; Yang Berhormat Senator Dato’ Sri Sharizat Abdul Jalil, Minister of Woman, Family & Community Development.



      The event started off with an arrival and registration of guests and media. Then, a screening of a short flim by Petaling Jaya Child Council : I HAVE A VOICE was showed. And honorably we had Mr. Hans Olsen, UNICEF Representative to Malaysia to give his welcome remarks. The event was then carried on by Keynote Speech by Yang Berhormat Senator Dato’ Sri Sharizat Abdul Jalil, Minister of Woman, Family & Community Development and an unforgettable speech by Adolecent Alayna Rani Sreenives, Petaling Jaya Child Councillor. Finally, it was the launch of UNICEF's State of the World's Children Report 2011 – Adolescents An Age of Opportunity. Tokens of Appreciation were presented by Adolescents to Yang Berhormat Senator Dato’ Sri Sharizat Abdul Jalil, Minister of Woman, Family & Community Development. Then it was the  Inter-generational Dialogue, open discussion via twitter #unicefmy, Theme: Youth and Adults: A Collaboration of forces for a better world. A number of special performances by Adolescents were then showed. A tea break was prepared to end the amazing event.

Leo Leadership Camp 2011

Once again our sister club PJI will be having the Leo Leadership Camp for this year. The following are the details for the camp.

Date: 3rd December 2011 to 8th December 2011
Venue: Kem Bina Semangat, Kuala Kubu Bharu
Price: RM265 per person; inclusive of 5 nights’ accommodation, 5 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 5 dinners &
Insurance.


Think of this camp as the entire National Service experience within 5 days minus the marching and discipline.

The Second Children's Forum - "I Have A Voice"


If you’ve been unsettled and complaining about the injustice you see around you, in your school, your neighbourhood, your city, even your own homes and you’ve always wanted to do something about it but never knew how… this is for you.
We hope to form groups of changemaking youth all across the city to join us in our movement to establish Child&Youth Participation in the development of how our world is built at every corner of our city of Petaling Jaya.
We are not just the future generation, but in true fact, we are the generation of now and equal participants of today’s society.
Our voices are as equal as the voices and participation of anyone else.

Eco Flag

A week before 8 August, we’ve collected used plastic bottles from the school students and also from the committee members home. On 8 August after school, we piled the bottles together and counted the amount of bottles that we have collected. Then, we stacked the bottles properly before spray painting them and gluing them together in place. We painted the bottles red, white and blue and let them dry. The next day, on 9 August, we continued spray painting the leftovers while gluing the dried painted bottles together. On 10 August, we glued the leftovers of the dried painted bottles together and leave them to dry. We draw the star and the crescent moon on the Malaysian flag on a piece of card board paper and cutted them out before painting them yellow. We leave them to dry until the next day, 11 August. Lastly, we pasted the star and the crescent moon on the Eco Flag.

SMK Damansara Jaya’s Interact Club Installation

SMK Damansara Jaya’s Interact Club Installation (13.8.2011)

Venue: School Hall.

On the 13th of August 2011, the representatives of the Leo Club of SMK Damansara Jaya arrived in school at 12.30 pm and registered themselves at the registration counter. The event started about 1.05pm. They welcomed their guest of honour and introduced the representatives from other Interact clubs. The event started by singing the national anthem, Negaraku followed by the Interact song. After that, Rotarian Michelle gave a speech followed by Past President, Interactor Iman Najwa and the Organizing Chairperson of the installation, Interactor Mistika Idris. There were a few performances before the new Interactors were officially installed. And another performance before installing the new Board of Directors followed by the Interact pledge. There was a group photo with a representative from each attended club and a few more performances before the event ended.
